Egyptian hieroglyphs Part 2

Like every other form of communication, the ancient Egyptian language developed, too. While the hieroglyphs were almost small paintings, new forms evolved, which are its cursive equivalents, called Hieratic and Demotic.

As mentioned before, Hieroglyphs are pictorial. They represent the oldest form of characters and are usually found in graves and on monuments. Usually texts written in Hieroglyphs deal with religious contexts or biographies.

As they use small pictures as a script, it took scribes a fairly long time to write texts. Therefore a cursive script, called Hieratic, was developed.

We will tell you more about Hieratic next week.
