Desktop publishing (layout)

As written text often forms part of a visual context, translations of such texts often require follow-up design and layouting work. This is why the product portfolio of tsd Technik-Sprachendienst GmbH also includes “desktop publishing” (abbreviated to DTP).
tsd can therefore offer a full-service package for layouted contents and not only translate the text but also deliver the documents in their finished layout.

This service can also be ordered independently of previous process steps, our team will also be happy to create the source text layout.

In this context, we offer to deliver projects to customers in a ready-to-print or ready-to-publish condition, which can save the company significant amounts of time and expense.

We also complete projects involving various revision loops. For example, we offer to have finished layouted documents proofread by native speakers so that rare or unusual target languages can be presented with the correct layout.

Are you interested in our full-service package for your translation projects? – We will be happy to advise you about our service offering and create an individual package for you. Simply contact us by telephone on +49 (0) 221 92 59 86 0 or write us an email at tsd@tsd-int.com.

Standard workflow

  • The project manager exports the unlayouted “raw data” from the translation management system and forwards this to the DTP team.
  • Here the files are adapted according to the customer’s requirements and taking the source text project into account.
  • If requested, the files are given a final review by a native speaker of the target language.
  • The customer might have additional comments which the team can integrate into the layouted files.
  • The finished layouted files are sent back to the project manager in a ready-to-print/publish condition. The project manager then sends them to the customer.

Our DTP team works with a range of layouting and publishing programmes including Adobe InDesign, Adobe FrameMaker, Articulate Storyline, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, AutoCAD and many more. Country-specific features can be specified in advance so that layouters apply them to the relevant documents.

Checklist

  • What format are the documents in?
  • Are there special work instructions regarding the layout of the different target languages?
  • Would you like the document to be reviewed in the target language?
  • In what format should the documents be returned?
  • Where will the contents be used later, i.e. online and/or in print media?
