Happy Yom Kippur

Tonight after the sun sets Jewish people around the world celebrate Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

Traditionally Yom Kippur is a Day of Atonement and repentance. As according to the tradition it is the day when God judges peoples actions and seals their fate for the upcoming year. Jews traditionally observe this holy day by fastening and spending the day in the synagogue for an intensive prayer service.

Tomorrow night after nightfall the festivities end with a prayer service and an extensive after-fast meal, making the evening after Yom Kippur a Yom tov (festival).

We wish all our Jewish readers an easy fast and a happy Yom Kippur celebration!
