Born in Massachusetts in 1791, Samuel Morse originally had nothing to do with the field of engineering at all.
He was in fact a very successful artist – even today, his paintings are exhibited in renowned museums.
But one day, when he was on a ship from Europe to the USA he was listening to a conversation and heard about electromagnetism for the first time.
This gave him the idea of an electronic telegraph.
Morse began tinkering and soon couldn’t stop…
